Pink and purple butterfly girl nursery.

The butterfly bush outside our living room window is in full bloom. We see many different butterflies and moths and hummingbirds sipping on the sweet nectar all day long. Butterflies must be in season outside and in the nursery because we have sold 5 butterfly quilts on the Etsy shop since August!

This one was pink and purple with a sweet embroidery name added.

This one was made for a baby in Kentucky and the family loved Monarchs.

This was our original quilt. The very first one!

This one was custom ordered with purple's and yellow accent.

All purple on this one.

Purple, gray and yellow for this one.

I would definitely say that the pink and purple combination is our most popular request.

Mammy and I (Ashlee) work together on this quilt. I work with the customer (sending photos of fabrics) to choose their fabrics for the butterfly and the back of the quilt. Then I apply a heat bond fabric applicator (wonder-under) to the back of the fabric, hand-cut out each butterfly and machine applique each butterfly in place using a zig-zag stich. I use white thread and each butterfly is zig-zagged around twice. Then I mail the quilt top to Mammy and she adds batting and the backing. She machine stipples the entire quilt in white thread (trying to hit the butterflies again). She binds the quilt and washes it. After washing and lightly drying she checks to see if butterflies came loose and cuts stray threads before packing, photographing and shipping the quilt to it's new home.
The process from start to finish can take 2-5 weeks (depending on fabric availability, business, problems that come up, etc.)
