Our Hottest quilt for the fall! Perfect for deer crib bedding set. It is an original design/pattern. We call it the "camo compromise". It features a deer head and we make it in a twin, toddler and crib size. Since August we've sold 7 of these quilts and while each one follows the same pattern; they are all different in some way. Each quilt is customized using the buyers specifications.

A new quilt design... raccoon baby quilt.

I just finished up piecing the top to a raccoon baby quilt that I will pass on to Mammy to quilt this weekend. I started this little guy around July 30th and with kids and all I finally got him all pieced.

This is the beginning of him.

As you can tell its' a rough beginning (picture taken with my iphone at about 11pm).
What I have done is placed my backing fabric down face up (it's the off white fabric with the black, blue and green hash marks). I place it down so I can see how big I need to make the quilt top and also to remember the colors I want to play off of.
Then I placed the biggest piece of yellow I had down (the color is a really lovely mustard and less sunshiney). Then I cut a rough off white oval. I used some gray, white and black triangles and made a raccoon silhouette. The triangles have 2 long sides and 1 short side I think they are about 5 inches tall.
I wanted to pull in the blue from the backing piece so I was working with adding a blue scarf and that green piece was a perfect match and I wanted to work that in as well.

And now you can see it close up. He kinda has a that deer-in-the headlights look and I think that is appropriate since the frame is kinda like its a weird portrait situation. I fooled with the scarf quite a bit and I'm a little disappointed with how low it sits on him and how I attached it; on the next one I might do better or worse (who knows?). But isn't that the fun of all of this. Either way that scarf isn't going anywhere and he is still cute. right?

The final pre-quilted picture. I ended up adding a black ~5 inch border all around. I think he is adorable! We shall see what Mammy the quilter thinks.

Modern baby quilts... still in progress and complete

My last post was about 2 modern baby quilts (Bear & Penguin) that were in progress. Well one of them is completed and the other is still in progress. Can you guess which one is complete?

It ended up that the penguin quilt was much simpler to quilt then the Bear has turned out to be. After each penguin was appliqued down and the backing was chosen (I chose black), it was all pinned together with batting and I quilted around the penguins, up and down the slopes and My dear husband traced some clouds in the blue sky.

You can see it's a light quilt; but the dimensions are really perfect for a crib at 52 x 33 inches.

Each penguin stands about 8 inches tall. I think they would be adorable with little purple bowties; but I think I will let the buyer decide that. You can see it here on Etsy:  https://www.etsy.com/listing/193399423/homemade-baby-penguin-crib-size-quilt?

And what about the Bear quilt?

I haven't given up hope; just become frustrated with the quilting process. It's still gorgeous and I adore it; but I'm just taking my time and letting other projects distract me.

The Bear is all pinned an about halfway quilted. It really is a "bear" of a project.

Modern homemade baby quilts... in progress

Just an update; but, the quilts I listed back in January (peacock, bicycle, and jungle) have sold off of our Etsy site https://www.etsy.com/shop/createdbymammy. So a little wahoo there!

But today's post is about the newest quilts in progress. First a modern Bear. I was inspired for this one by the triangle quilts and my spring break trip to the Memphis zoo where we saw lots of bears and awesome grizzles.
The bear quilt was pretty simple to make. First I made bear silhouette ~4x5 inches on paper then I projected that image onto a really big piece of paper taped to the wall. (I projected it by using a flashlight.) When it was projected I carefully traced the image onto the paper, then I cut that image out, it was really large like 30 inches long or something.

The next step was to make brown triangles and to sew them into like 3 rows. Then it was easy to just pin the paper bear image over the triangle rows and cut the image of the bear out. Appliqued him to some white fabric ~ 1yard 1/2 and now he is ready for batting and quilting. I just need to go purchase the backing fabric. We've chosen solid brown to match the bear and keep him monochromatic. The final quilt should finish around 43 square. Daniel (my husband) thinks the bear needs an eye; but I disagree.

Second quilt in the middle of being quilted. Also inspired by animals at the zoo.

These 3 little guys were pretty simple to make but painstakingly assembled thru the process of applique. I think they are adorable; but just need bowties or hairbows for some color. They seem a little bland to me.

I have NOT gotten the hang of this blogging thing yet. I just never get around to doing it. If you will forgive me I will try to do better in the future. So a few months ago I posted about 3 quilts we (Mammy and I) were working on and NOW I have pictures of said quilts:

The Bicycle on tea-dyed dictionary print. It was Totally my idea.

The peacock: It was a co-design with Mammy and I. We added in some lovely fabrics that we received from our dear friends over at AnneEverretRae. This quilt is a one of a kind with a special peacock embroidery in the center. The peacock embroidery alone is worth $20. Maybe it's a little too grown-up for a baby nursery (at least that is what my sister Aimee thinks); but, not for me I think it would look magnificent  in a girl's nursery and it so grow up with her.

And finally the jungle strip quilt that is really eclectic and bright (and hard to photograph well). It's just one of those snuggly quilts that you wont mind being drug around because all those bright colors will hide the dirt and the way it was sewn makes it last thru anything.

So those are the 3 that I had blogged about a couple months ago and we got them quilted over Christmas break. But we also got others started: a snail, a green bird, 2 octopuses, and a gumball machine. Soon they will be here on the blog but until then you can find them on etsy with CreatedbyMammy.
